Classical Architecture
Calverts
hold a small selection of traditional dressed stone and
carved ornamentation in stock but are best known and respected
by builders and architects for their made-to-order stonework,
usually delivered on site for erection by a contractor.
Stonework for the architect-designed pavilion style summer
house (Right) was supplied by Calverts and erected by a
local company for a private client in the Ripon area.
Replacing stone and decorative features from the seriously eroded bay windows of this private house (centre), also in Ripon, required that we take stone by stone measurements on-site, then produce detailed working drawings to ensure accuracy and a perfect fit of new stone with old.
The
simplest shapes are often the most deceptively complex in
shape and construction, as in these replacement limestone
wall coping stones (inset) made to measure for Ampleforth
College, North Yorkshire. Repairs to a John Carr balustrade
(bottom) at Constable Burton Hall were much more straight
forward, which was just as well as shortly after work was
complete a falling tree destroyed another part of the bridge.
Fortunately Calvert's masonry yard is only five miles away,
so help was quickly on hand!
