Masoned to Measure
by the master craftsmen of Wensleydale
Whether architect or landscape designer, the realisation of an artist's creative vision can demand the consummate skill of the master craftsman to translate two-dimensions into three. From interpretation of the working drawings to finished creation in solid stone, A.D. Calvert works in partnership with architects, builders and renovation specialists to create stunning masonry detailing for new and old structures.
As a traditional family-run masonry business, A.D. Calvert is that rare breed: a company ready and willing to tackle smaller scale and one-off projects. We are simply not interested in mass production, preferring to use our unique expertise to serve specialist needs. With Calverts you are dealing face to face with the craftsmen who will do the work: on time and to an impeccable standard.
We take pains to ensure that our schedule dovetails with yours. That dressed stone, architectural features and statuary are delivered to the right place at the right time. We can assist with the planning and logistics process, to ensure that the correct stone is used and is properly handled on site. With our own Witton Fell Quarry in the heart of Wensleydale yielding a medium grained buff coloured sandstone which is proving ideal for matching and renovation work, plus a stock range of seven types of sandstone and two limestones, Calverts can readily meet most requirements direct with a rapid turnround.
In addition we offer a complete stone matching service and are able to acquire, and work with, any type and quality of stone that meets your unique specification.
Replacement gate piers at St. Hilda's Church, South Shields are topped with part repaired, part renewed sandstone finials. Andrew Calvert worked closely with the renovation team to reconstruct this landmark gateway from records, photographs and the clues remaining in the eroded stones themselves.
